Pre-booked Car Hire Didn't Materialise

I recently booked a week's car hire for a holiday in Cyprus and upon arriving at 10.30PM on a Sunday evening, the promised meet-and-greet car hire rep wasn't there. When I found the rep for the company who was supposed to provide my car, I wasn't on his list.
I had to spend 40 euros on a taxi to the hotel and phoned the booking company twice the next day to enquire as to where my car was.
On both occasions I was promised that someone would phone me back when they had checked - no one did.
To have booked another car locally would have cost much more than I originally paid so I made do with taxis and buses which spoiled the holiday to a degree.
Upon my return I contacted the booking company and they have said they will refund due to a mix up in the booking even though I received a confirmation that my booking was set up.
Do I have a claim for breach of contract and compensation for the extra costs I incurred?

Do you have receipts/tickets?
If so you may have a claim.

Yes you have a claim, but probably not for much (not enough to justify the trouble of pushing them if they are difficult about paying).

What you should have done was hired from another company there, and billed them for the cost.
