NPower mix-up

First time post so please stick with me... we used MSE to compare prices this time last year for our gas and try to switch from British Gas to NPower. This took until Feb 13 to happen when I paid final bill to BG. NPower have been unable to set up my account properly so although I've got a supply and provide monthly meter readings they are unable to provide me with a bill and have advised me not to make any payments as they have no where to allocate it. I should be paying via DD but again they cannot set this up.
I've tried complaing and now Executive Complaints are handling it but with no success. Ombudsman said they are aware of NPower IT issue and not much they can do!!
NPower have agreed I can swap (even though I'll owe them money and dont know how much) but no-one else is near them on deals at the moment so I'd be paying more to move. NPower have said once its sorted I'll be compensated (but wont say how much), they've said they can only back date charges by 12 months (dont know how true this is) and they will give me time to pay.

Any advice - I'm thinking of writing to Watchdog as I'm at a loss. I just want to pay for what I'm using. I'm scared to put the heating on because I dont want a load of back charges. Advice please?:(

If the tariff is a decent competitive price for your useage why not just start putting money aside and take advantage of their backbilling offer?

I suppose I can can sit tight and wait for them to sort it. Just worried that I have no idea how much gas I'm using throughout the winter. I'm putting aside what I used to pay British Gas, but having only been doing this a couple of months. There's always so many other things to spend the money on.
    Thanks for your reply though

Hi there it seems they are making more mistakes than normal at the moment. I've been with them for 9 years and my latest bill predicts I'm due to use £43 of gas this YEAR :j despite it normally been £600

Did the decent thing and rang them Wednesday but they were too busy :D spoke to someone and left my details for a callback after 6pm Thursday and if not then Friday...........guess what nobody rang back........perhaps they are busy because of so many errors?

Good idea nada..... knackers to them I will put the money aside.
