Jamaica always looks an interesting destination. Negril and Ocho Rios looks the best bet for us .Montega Bay may be too lively and Runaway Bay seems too quiet. Some of the hotels from the brochure seems to have about 7 floors so they do not look very attractive. Also with taller hotels there is always the lift problem. You always pay more for adult only hotels or hotels with a seperate adult only accommodation section. Some of these of course have the added attraction of a golf course which has no appeal to us. We only want part of the hotel to be a "Child Free Zone".We never can fanthom out the reason why they always charge more for adult only hotels/sections except extra tht it gives more profit to the hoteliers.!!!

I have to say,we are well travelled and we are of the opinion the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall is one of the best hotels we have ever been to,its in Montego Bay,you will pay 5K for two of you for 14 nights,it is well worth it
  • We would prefer to avoid the Montego Bay area but like the look of Negril. If not then for us Ocho Rios is the only other possibility but it is definitely only our second choice. We are looking for a reasonably priced hotel in the Negril (or the Ocho Rios)area, which perhaps is more adult orientated rather than catering mainly for families. Are there any hotels that come into this catagory without paying a lots of money. Regrettably we are on budget but are thinking of Jamaica as possibility to celebrate our 30th Wedding anniversary in March. Thank you for any advice or suggestions on this subject
  • We thought of going to Jamaica towards the end of March in 2014, but have read that the resorts are taken over by the American students taking their Spring Breaks. Apparantly this makes the hotels rather rowdyover this period, and Rui Hotels even have a warning on their website for their hotel in Negil stating this fact. We are now thinking again, unless anyone knows differently!!!

Had this discussion before on thread about Mexico. Please note that in the USA the Easter holiday is commonly referred to as Spring Break and for most teenagers its a right of passage type of event where they go on wild parties at lots of holiday locations. Most destinations in the Caribbean can be affected, Cancun is one I know if but it affects many others too. If you are a young party animal (as I was living in Mexico back in 90's) its a fabulous time. If you are after the more relaxing holiday you may want to avoid this time. To be fair most hotels also increase prices because they anticipate the demand from USA during the Spring Break holiday.

We are a mature couple in our early sixties and are considering booking a holiday in Jamaica next February or March. As far as we can see there are 4 main resorts Montego Bay, Runaway Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios. We are wondering which is the best for us. We do not want to pay top wack and are looking for an all inclusive at a hotel geared more to adults but not necessarily completely adult only. It would be nice if there were a few shops and bars nearby without being in the middle of any loud night life. A decent beach is very important. If somebody whose has been to Jamaica or has good knowledge of the island perhaps they could post it on this forum. The right resort is the highest priority as we can always look through the reviews on Trip Advisor for hotel reviews.

My advice would be not to go to Jamaica. I have been to 5 of the Caribbean islands. Jamaica, Barbados, Cuba, Antigua and St Lucia and Jamaica was by far the worst holiday. For similar money I would recommend Antigua or St Lucia, much nicer islands, same climate of course but 10x less spoilt by tourism, not to mention the high crime rates in Jamaica. I'm not sure what the fuss is about with Jamaica, it seems people go because of the history, without looking at other options.
