Hi,
My mother has had a letter from Santander saying that after requesting a list of the payments in the old account, Lloyds have refused to provide it.
The reason is that the account holder on the new account does not match the account older on the old account. The old account has my father as joint account holder. Do I take it the old bank needs authorisation from the joint account holder in order to pass the info to the new bank?
the letter from Santander is not very clear.
thanks

It makes sense that they won't allow the switch of a joint account to a sole account.
http://www.paymentscouncil.org.uk/switch_service/faqs/The Current Account Switch Service does cover joint accounts, but both named parties on the account will need to complete the relevant forms.0 -
thanks.
so what is the best way of sorting this?
Should the second account holder withdraw from the Lloyds account or should he make a joint request for a Santander 123 account and then once it is opened pull out?
Basically the new account only needs to be in one persons name.0 -
Easiest is probably if the person who wants an account just in their name opens an account just in their name. Without asking Santander to switch anything. Cancelling DDs and SOs, and setting them up on a new account, it really easy.0

Two options:
a) Remove your father's name from the Lloyds account; or
b) Switch the payments over yourself, by setting up the new standing orders at Santander, cancelling them at Lloyds, contacting the companies you pay direct debits to, contacting anyone who pays money into the account (salary/pension/benefits/friends etc)0
