Why is my internet slow?

My father's internet is pretty slow at his house, it used to be fast but seems to be getting slower and slower and a lot of the time we have to reset the router to get connection back.
It is faster on the wired connection but not as fast as it used to be.
It is hit and miss with the wifi and the speedtest picture below is from my laptop on wifi
any help is much appreciated
regards
Andy

I'd be tempted to post this on the talktalk forum then allow a few days for one of their OCE's to respond. They can/will talk you through umpteen routes to resolve this. .
I too am with talktalk and recently had fibre optic installed.
If I told you that earlier today, mine was hellishly slow loading pages and I did a TT speed test and it was 15.26 Mbps download and 1.83Mbps upload. and hor later it was 16.05 Mbps & 1.82Mbps.
I'm not a teckie, but I am of the opinion that on start-up, there may well be numerous programmes starting up when they could be delayed, but knowing which they are and how to delay, is out of my league.
N cable is attached, I'm always wifi. The TT speed test site suggests improved speeds can be achieved using a cable.
I use firefox and like everyone else, IE is there but hardly used. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I helped a friend out the other day who was having problems. Talk Talk have a useful tool for checking your dads' connection speed. Give it a whirl.

Hit and mis with wifi may not be the internet but the wifi is poor .
That leads me to suspect possible router problem .
As said use the TT Tool and the TT forums are helpful if you get a CS on your case .0 -
I have just been on that link and they have said that we are due a free upgrade on the router so will see if that fixes it.
Thanks for the help.0 -
