Thunderbird lets you do that too for free and.....thescouselander wrote: »Basically I just setup Outlook on my main computer at home to save a copy of all messages locally on the machine (this is how it works by default anyway).

This is NOT a backup! Once you reconnect to the IMAP server and there are messages deleted on it it will delete the offline messages at the next sync too.0 -

You can do that regardless of keeping the emails "offline" or not...0 -
You guys have lost me. With Thunderbird and IMAP can you configure TB to save copies in "local storage"? (and not using message rules or whatever they've called in TB).0

That's right, but it is a two way SYNC. If you (or in your case the provider) delete an email on the server it will be deleted in TB at the next sync too. I thought you want a BACKUP?0 -
Sorry, I should have been more specific "can you configure TB to save copies in "local storage" which are independent of the server"0

Short answer, no.
What you could do is, set up a second email account in TB with the same details as the other one, but chose POP3 instead of IMAP and most importantly set "keep messages on the server" or however that option is called. Additionally you could set a rule for this account to mark all incoming messages as read.
Two other solutions independent of TB I posted earlier in this thread...0 -
Thanks. I'm running MailstoreHome now which is just the job for archives.0

With TB you can set a message filter to do it
create a rule eg From ..... Contains ..... @
Action copy message to ....Select Local folder
Apply as run as Checking Mail and Manual4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0
