Insulating letterplate on wooden door

Hi, hope someone can offer some advice here. We have an old thick wooden front door which is furnished with a brass(ish) letter plate. This comprises a small (16cm x 5cm) opening for the post, and on the street side, it incorporates the yale lock. It is a vertical letter box.
Now we get a gale blowing through the letter box bit, but all the brush - like insulators in the DIY shops are for much larger letter boxes. They cannot be cut down as all the brushes will fall out. I cannot make the post box any larger due to the position of other door furniture. Can anyone offer any suggestion how I can stop the draught?
Many thanks

Had the same problem. I bought ecoflap and it works really well.

Have you considered an outside letter box and blocking up the letter box?

We had one of those for many years and it solved the problem of draughts.

Ideally you need to live in a house set well back from the road so you don't have a high risk of someone taking your mail.

There are many types of letter box available.

I should have added that I also had a vertical letterplate in a Victorian door but it was too small and lots of post kept getting ripped as a result. We bought a larger letterplate and paid a joiner who was doing other jobs for us to cut a horizontal space for us to mount it and fill in the original vertical hole. The ecoflap sits comfortably over the mounting screws. It is expensive but also works as it should so it is worth it in my opinion.
