hi I m a small landlord and have just had gas piped to a meter box outside a flat ,..inside I have had central heating installed , im wanting a gas meter installed so I can get things up and running .
they all ask the name of the tenant so they can do a check on their past finances before supplying and fitting , as the flat is not tenanted yet I cant supply that,
what im thinking is is it possible to install ammeter that I can buy off the net ,that way I can choose my new gas supplier by the cost of the deal they can provide giving me a choice ,
just wondered if that was legal ??:)

You now need to choose a gas supplier and contact them as they will arrange for a meter to be installed, There may or may not be costs involved but best speak to them. You are not permitted to install a meter yourself if you are not licensed to touch the gas supply that enters the house, and by that definition alone you would have to be qualified as a gas safe engineer - then you would still need the gas supplier to send engineer out to check it as they are responsible for the meter,
Personally if letting it out get a payg meter installed.

You will probably have to have it installed in your name so that they will have someone to bill for the standing charge, even if no gas is being used. You can then make sure that the first tenant reads the meter and takes over the supply as soon as they move in.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

My first question will be who installed the main supply, as Im aware that illegal supplys are on the up. My second warning is that if you were to attach a meter, you will be breaking the law and be committing an offence under section 2B of the gas act.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
