Have you checked your details on the credit reference agencies?

Maybe there are still other details attached to your file for the previous people living in your home, if there are, you write to / email them to disassociate them.

Some say these details aren't put on files any more, however old details maybe there and I've seen in the last 4 month similar details added to a friends report, as he was trying to sort some problems out and needed a report.

It's an offence to tamper with someone elses mail.

It also costs nothing to write return to sender on a load of mail and putting it through the post box.

In addition shredding the mail doesn't stop it coming putting returned to sender on it continuously gets rid of it. (I've lived in a house where they throw away other people mail for 2 years, when I spent 6 months putting returned to sender on allt eh mail the volume of mail decrease dramatically.)

I've been putting RTS on mail here for just over a year & a half & its still coming:mad:

Yeah, it will. They ignore hand written RTS's because the person who owes the debt could still live their and write it on themselves. It's the ones stamped by Royal Mail when the postman is unable to deliver they take notice off, and not everyone blocks the letterbox when they move out.

They should stop sending eventually, depends on the company how long it takes, but whether you return them or not for that company it will still take the same time to stop.

    .

BexTech, how do you know what the letters are unless you have opened them?

In the case of bank/credit card statements the company will stop sending them and may eventually send the occupier a letter asking if they know the whereabouts of that person.

In the case of other debts just expect a phone call from a debt company or bailiffs turning up on your doorstep.

Junk mail companies vary on their response. But you can sign up the previous occupants not to receive mail at your address using the MPS.

In addition due to the nature of Royal Mail staffing their redirection service sometimes has fault so letters to the original address. Shredding someone mail in that case is just simply mean.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Virtually all of them have a return address on the back, some also have franked who they are, you can often see through the envelope enough to see, etc.

Tough, they should have sorted out their change of address details by then. Once again tough, I couldn't care less, it's their problem, I just don't have time to waste on silly matters.

To be honest I don't think it is mean of BexTech to say that.

If they were the sort of people who were going to be bothered about it or pay their bills then they would have paid for redirection as I & others who don't want to inconvience others do.
People who skip with no forwarding address are thiefs who don't want to pay what they owe.

I've spent over a year & a half RTS-ing letters, they keep sending them & they are the same companies who can't be bothered not to sort out their end & st6op inconvenincing me:mad:

Except when RM messes up your redirection, as they did to me and one of my neighbours - I got all her mail though she hadn't moved, my mail went to my old address and was disposed of by the new occupiers, including birthday cards to two of my children. I guess they nicked the book tokens. My redirection was still in force. RM washed their hands of the problem, just said they'd speak to the postman.

I always RTS letters that come here in error.

I've always crossed letters through as they arrived and dump them in a pile. When I know I'm going past a postbox I pick them up and send them back. Somethimes it can be several weeks before this is done, but it means post is dealt with properly with minimum effort by myself.

TocochickUK, I'd suggest in future not opening other people's post and just return it, then you wouldn't be worrying yourself over other people's affairs.

As to the debt collectors, they should be aware there is a new occupier in the property so shouldn't hassle you, however they may pay a visit to get confirmation. This is because sometimes people try to say they have moved out if they can't afford to pay their bills thinking they won't then be tracked down or disconnected. I doubt they will be climbing though the windows and taking the tv as it would look bad on BG so relax.
