Bradford and bingley PPI 1991

I've been clearing my garage out and found old documents that show I was told I had to pay £700+ for PPI before I would be given the mortgage I applied for. I was charged it in one lump - i.e. it was removed from the mortgage amount before the funds were released. At the time I already had sickness cover insurance, very good sickness benefits from my company and savings of thousands in the company share scheme.

I have the documents from B&B but no more. I've been in touch with the solicitors I used but they have no records. This was taken out in 1991.

Where do I stand? Do I need the insurance policy number or will the mortgage reference number suffice?

I believe I should direct the paperwork to Santander now? Is there anything else I need to help this claim?

B&B never sold single premium MPPI. So, it wont be that. Is it possible it is a MIG? (mortgage indemnity guarantee)

None of which has anything to do with MIG.

You dont stand anywhere. You are mixing things up. PPI is not MIG. MIG is not PPI. It was a condition of borrowing and that is allowed.

Nope. Old B&B lending has nowt to do with Santander, they only bought the deposits, the loans are with UKFI.
  • Thanks for the replies. Very much appreciated. I hear what you're saying and maybe I am getting mixed up. I tried to add a picture of the brochure which is the reason that I thought the payment was for PPI. I'm not allowed to post links though. It is a Bradford and bingley brochure that says payment protection insurance in big letters on the front.

This is the brochure that was in the same envelope as the letter telling me I had to make a payment to get the cover. Do you still think I'm chasing rainbows or is there a possibility of getting something back?

Forget the brochure and check the paperwork, if you paid a mortgage indemnity guarantee then you can have no complaint on the basis you describe.

Bradford and Bingley never sold MPPI on a single premium basis. So, regardless of what a brochure says, if you were not paying a monthly premium then you didnt have it.
