Don't apologise, you don't need to. Looks like your taking a highly responsible attitude to pay off monies owed , but your circumstances sound like you are on a very low income and I'm glad you've got other claims going through, you need and deserve all the help you can get.I agree you could get a lot of other help on the debt free wannabe board. One last thought, don't ever ring a bailiff because then they have your phone number.and don't tell them anything about your finances or tribunals.

Have you ever let them in your house? As long as you have not let them in before then they can't break in.
Why not write to them , explain that you haven't got more than 10 pounds but that you will continue to pay the 10 pounds ? They can't have what you haven't got. Either that or ignore them.
You can also try and apply to the council to get the debt taken back in house due to your family situation and the fact you are now a vulnerable person.

Edit: there is a very useful factsheet on dealing with bailiffs here: http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=02_bailiffs_and_council_tax

I wouldn't mind knowing if they have been in the house also

    name the bailiff firm please

keep paying as you have been

do you know what charges have been added to all the accounts ?

have you ever had a statement of accounts ?
how do you know you only owe £400 have you had this from the bailiff firm ?

It wouldn't surprise me to find is an awful lot more than the £400 you still owe

Think a wee letter /e-mail to the council might be needed here

mrsF I do hope you come back and read the replies you really need to find out what bailiff fees have been added to each account we can help you with this its not uncommon for bailiff to charge a levy fee on all accounts for the same goods this is not allowed and if a levy fee has been charged on each account then their may well be an attendance to remove fee on each account

have a read of this http://www.lgo.org.uk/news/2012/jul/blaby-council-criticised-bailiff-charges/

  • Thank you all, sorry for the delay in replying, my net access is a tad random at the moment :)

I will read through all the links you have shared for me, and check the paperwork I have and see what fees I have been charged

The company is called Chandlers. and unfortunately for the first debts they did get in the house, because I knew no better, they told me that if I did not let them in then they could not make an arrangement with me and I would go to prison. I know now they lied but at the time I was on my own and panicking! I have no intention on not paying them monthly though so they should not be able to come back I hope

I did make the bailiff sick the last time they visited mind you, as I had been out of hospital for just 3 days having undergone 3 heart surgeries in 9 weeks. When they banged on the door, I kinda lost it a little and told them what I had been trough then showed them the scars to prove it ... the bailiff disappeared unfortunately they came back later

He should have handed the debt back to the council not come back
I take it this was a while ago

can you confirm that the bailiff has only ever been in your house once and they were enforcing more than one debt ?(these debts are now paid)

    1. When was the last time they came round?
    2. Did they enter your premises
    3. Did they inventory your goods?
