Bruges Christmas Markets, whats cheapest travel?

I really want to go to the christmas markets in Bruges, I have seen a groupon deal which is £149 for 2 nights travelling by Eurostar and 2 nights hotel only in Bruges. We live in Manchester so would have to travel down to get the eurostar, just wondered what people thought, is this a good deal or is there a way i could get a better deal doing it myself. I know you can fly but not actually into Bruges

Have you looked at the ferry from hull with p&o, as they have a 2 for 1 offer on. Bruges is a lovely city, but the market is small - a lot smaller than the one in Manchester!

The ferry from Hull will be cheaper but you spend the 2 nights onboard rather than a hotel.
Just be aware that the cabins and food aren't anywhere near hotel standards.
If you're looking to spend a pleasant evening in Bruges with a nice meal etc. the P&O offering is not suitable as they bus you back to the ship late afternoon
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

just had a quick look at the hull ferry, it says 2 for 1 £75 for 1 and the other goes free, 2 nights on board one day to look at the city, not really what i was after, but went through the booking process and it came up at £370 for 4 of us! dont know where the 2 for 1 comes in!!!

Before you commit to the Groupon deal, check out where the hotel is
Superbreaks are also worth looking at as you get some choice in times and hotels

The ferry is much cheaper, but the cheapest option of the bunk bed rooms aren't great - rooms are tiny! Then you've got to take into account the £7 a day parking, and I think the transfers from Zeebrugge into Brugges were £13.50 each?

Brugges itself is lovely though, and once you're there everything is in walking distance as its so small. Definitely go to The Old Chocolate Shop for their hot chocolate, and I can definitely recommend the sampler of desserts - we got about 9 different things for €5.50, bargain!

There are a lot of magical Christmas markets in Belgium, Holland and Germany that could be equally as good as Bruges, so there are alternatives that could be considered.

With these deals it's best to work out a total cost and look at reviews of the hotel to assess exactly what you are getting.

Double check the train times as well to see if they reduce the value of the trip, ie if the return from Bruges leaves at 8am will that reduce the enjoyment of the evening before.

Are Manchester and Liverpool airports ok for you?

When do you want to go?

  • it isnt really the christmas markets I want to see, I really want to go to Bruges but thought it would be even nicer to fit it in around the markets, Manchester and Liverpool airports are fine for us and we are looking to go early December but again it doesnt have to be that time if there are cheaper times to go
