What should I include in my letter when claiming

I have drafted a letter to claim back bank charges and have got copies of all the charges from my bank for the last 6 years.

Do I need to send the list of bank charges and the total amount I wish to claim?
I have already done a speadsheet with the details and totals.

    No.

As you cant claim charges back as being unfair any more, there is no point doing that. If you are making a financial hardship claim (i.e. you are in a spiral of charges and living on the breadline, have arrears etc) then the lender will decide the course of action it will take. This can range from a refund of some charges or it can be a suspension of charges and interest for the next 6 months or something similar.

With hardship requests, you need to make sure you present your case accurately and focus on the hardship you are suffering. There is no point claiming hardship if you have a direct debit to a mobile phone or sky tv going out for example. The banks do check your statements. You also need to avoid any statement that indicates you feel the charges are unfair and you need to state you are asking under financial hardship.

You want the person at the bank to feel sorry for you and sympathise with your position. So, dont use language or style of writing that is going to alienate them.
