Heating a new house
I am (hopefully) going to buy a 1930s house. It needs new windows and I assume from the EPC, it has next to no insulation. We plan to spend the last few pennies with have on insulating the loft and under floor and we will probably change the gas boiler sooner rather than later and clean out the radiators.
There is a gas fire in the living room and I was wondering whether it would be cost effective to replace it with a modern efficient one (I have no idea how old it is - it might not be too bad). And in the evenings when the kids are in bed and we have a couple of hours in the living room whether it would be cheaper to have the fire warming that one room and turn the heating off. Just how do these fires compare with boilers?
Thanks!
