From the scant info given in the opening post, it's impossible to deduce that the parts hadn't been fitted correctly the first time?
Anything can fail, irrespective of it being correctly fitted or not and it could just have likely been a manufacturing defect in the pump that caused the second problem.

On its own, having a recently purchased or repaired item fail shortly afterwards isn't really enough to tell how good or bad a retailer or trader is.
What is more important is how that problem is dealt with if/when it occurs.

    shaun from Africa well said.

im no mechanic and don't know if it was the part or the workmanship that was at fault.
we all make mistakes, that's why they put erasers on the end of pencils.
its been put right without any fuss or tutting from the garage.

how do we know that after the new water pump and power steering pump were fitted something else failed and caused the second power steering pump issue.

If it happens again and they respond the same way would you go back a third time?

  • If it happens again and they respond the same way would you go back a third time?

    Why wouldn't they?
What would you suggest that they do, get the same garage to replace the faulty items free of charge, or go to another garage where they will have to pay for the work?

At some point you'd have to start questioning the quality of the workmanship and go elsewhere.

Or the quality of the parts/engine/vehicle.
Many makes and models of cars have particular problems which may be very common and well known about and simply going to a different garage may not do anything to alieviate the problem but may end up costing money which wouldn't have to be paid if they stuck to the same garage.

I used to have a mk2 Focus, a model which was well known for water leaking into the passenger footwell. My local independent garage had a couple of goes at fixing this (both repairs lasted about 2 months), and in the end I took it to a Ford dealership.
They replaced the faulty part (again), but within 4 months, the water was coming in again.

I meant if every time you go it takes two visits, not that the Power steering keeps breaking. I presume that is now sorted otherwise why praise them.
