Help to Understand Information on Experian Credit File

Hi there,
Sorry for this long post but I am hoping someone could help me understand the information shown on my experian credit file.
The background : I moved house in Jan 2007 and settled a Capital One credit card account in (what I thought) was in full. I didn't close the account and an interest charge of £1.10 was applied. I didn't receive any more statements from them as I'd moved but they applied late payment fees bringing the account up to £62. In October that year I received correspondence to my new address and contacted them immediately. They were very understanding on the phone and agreed to close the account refunding the charges and outstanding balance and said my credit file would be updated to reflect this and no more action was required.
Fast forward to August in this year when I checked my credit file (thinking of remortgaging) and Experian shows the account as being in default with a current balance of £62, payments up to 4 months late although a settlement date of October 2008.
I rang Capital One who were able to find the records of the conversation and confirmed the details above but said they hadn't properly refunded the account from their end. Again they were very helpful and said they would now do this and update my credit file. To give it to mid-September when it should all be removed. (The girl's very words were - "who wouldn't pay a balance of £1.10?)
Nothing seems to have happened - any advice on what I should do now. I want to apply for a remortgage but am afraid given what looks like a default on my account. The status code is currently showing as 4 and it says it was last updated in April 2012 - does this mean it won't drop off my file in the 6 years if I can't get it removed?
Thanks in advance

Write to capital one rather than ring them refer to the phone conversations where they agreed to correct this, and point out it is causing you major issues with remotgaging.
6 years from the date of default as per your credit file - sometime in 2008 presumably? The status code is currently showing as 4 and it says it was last updated in April 2012 - does this mean it won't drop off my file in the 6 years if I can't get it removed?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks Tixy - yes, I'll try writing.
I think October 2008 - I can live with it until October 2014 if I have to but I was worried that it is still showing as being outstanding that it will go on indefinitely as I can't settle it (even though I'm told I don't need to).0
