Beware M&S furniture returns.

Ordered a small side table from them and when it arrived the colour was not as light as expected and just didn't look right in the place assigned for it. Rang to return and there is a charge of £50 to return furniture. It is in the terms but i have ordered so much stuff over the years that i didn't got into that thinking that it was the same policy no matter what you ordered. So as i cannot get to the shops to see what the actual item is like then i am stuck, won't be able to order any furniture again from them. It is only a fairly small item but the same price as if you were returning a large sofa or other piece of furniture.
When you look at Next furniture it states underneath the charge £30 for returns, it is not hidden away.not hidden away.

  • The product page invites you to read the Delivery T&Cs. Frustrating, but not their fault you chose not to read them.

I hardly trawled through all the T&C but I spotted it when I wanted to order a larder unit. Decided it would cost me more in time and petrol to find a shop that displayed them so decided I'd pay up if not suitable.

Not MnS fault at all. Your title should be 'warning, read terms and conditions...'

I see too many people on this forum complain about a retailer when in fact it is the buyer who could not be bothered to read up on their terms or delivery/return policy.

OP Hardly the retailers fault you never read their terms

well aren't you all goodie goodies always doing the right thing. I know it was my fault, the point i am making is that it should
be visible on the page when you view the furniture,as it is in Next. Not to elaborate i would have thought for a large company. I do as it happens always read the terms when i use a website i haven't used before but as i said i have been using marks for a few years and didn't think i had to trawl through it all again. I just wanted people to be aware. I am unable to get out to the main M&S to check the furnture so looks like the on-line option is off as well.
  • You could pay for a courier to return it for you, but £50 may be cheaper. You're entitled to the price of the item back plus the original delivery charge if there was one.
It makes sense for them to charge to return but only if it's for the return delivery.

The link to the delivery information is very clear. The warning should be 'check the information you think you know is actually correct before buying'.

It is not about being a 'goodie goodie', just checking your facts. Things change, always best to take thirty seconds to double check before buying.

    the returns policy states
    Returns
This item can be returned in accordance with your legal rights. For large items that cannot be sent in the pre-paid package, such as furniture, please arrange for collection by us promptly at your cost, £50. Our furniture customer service team can be contacted on 0845 7 624 624

It reads that this is the cost they charge if you get them to collect, so how much would another courier charge.
