Child benefit delay

My wife and I have separated and are divorcing...we have organised the childcare and changed the CTC which starts this week, but hit a brick wall with the child benefit. They tell me it will take 12 weeks to process:eek:
I sent the claim with the birth certificate and we have both signed the forms agreeing that I should get the benefit for one child so I don't understand such a long delay:(
Is there anything I can do to hurry them up a bit or is this the norm for hmrc? Any advice please;)

I think it can take up to 12 weeks. This would be more the norm where they then have to write to the person currently receiving it to , await a response then process. As you have sent everything up front it should certainly take much less time
