Hi,
So I have a Paypal and eBay account that I have been using every now and again for the past few years, no issues whatsoever.
I have recently sold a couple of phones on eBay and Paypal has been the method to receive payment. One phone was returned and the buyer refunded, no problems. The second buyer opened a case for proof of delivery so I entered the tracking details and everything is fine.
Now I log onto my Paypal account and it is saying I have 'Limited Access' so I look at the issue and it has my old old e-mail address on there saying login to that account. I don't know any of the details so I phone Paypal.
Paypal are telling me I have a negative balance on my account of £85, for a Momo Steering wheel I sold. The buyer was refunded, so I said that it got sent though, and he told me that a case was opened and I didn't respond in the 10days so the buyer was refunded the money. I said okay, so when was this...

I ask why it's only just been brought to your attention when I have been using Paypal for those 8 years continuously..and he said that it's because I sold some higher value items (the phones) that they looked into my account and noticed it.
Is there someway I can get out of paying?

Legally they cannot force you to pay but they may close your account.
If you try to open a new one that maybe blocked also. Its usually when you need it so beware.

PayPal are like elephants, they never forget.
We get a fair few posts on the eBay forum from people asking how long they need to hide from a PayPal debt before it goes away, the answer is basically forever if you ever want to use their services again.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Statute of limitations mean they can't chase you for it, it doesn't mean you don't owe them it and so they can choose to deal with you or not.0

They can chase you for it (within reason), they just cannot enforce it in a court of law.
Of course, they don't (and probably won't) need to offer you their services on the information they hold.0
