Get on the Electoral Register.
Then go direct to a network provider - not Apple.
When my younger brother was 19 he paid £100 additional upfront on a phone contract due to his 'risk' as he had little credit history. This was with o2 - after 3 months the £100 was credited to his phone bill with interest.0 -
1. go to experian and get my credit score. (which I did but they cannot verify my identity for some reason...!)
If Experian cannot verify your identity then surely anyone credit checking you with Experian is going to refuse you???
I'd say your main priority is to sort this our before applying for anything else - I doubt you'd get a phone contract too to be honest.0 -
I really want a "iPhone 5S", "latest this", "latest that" but I can't actually afford it, is exactly what landed most of us on this forum in the wotsit in the first place - no-one needs an iPhone 5S......0

I would imagine you aren't on the electoral roll, you would know if you applied or not. That aside, you are a high risk, no credit history, student, in the last six years you have lived between uk and another country and you have the money to pay for the phone but would willingly choose to pay more by getting it on credit, this suggests someone who is irresponsible or frivolous with money, or someone who is not looking at repaying their debt. The fact that 'you would rather use the cash to travel' suggests you have imminent plans to travel, otherwise why couldn't you use the money you would have paid monthly towards your travel plans?
Don't fall in the credit trap, if you can afford it and you want it, buy it, if not don't buy it, when that phone gets outdated by the iPhone 6's release soon you wont be so enthusiastic paying £40-£50 a month for an outdated phone.0
