Is £45 shopping per week too much for 1 person?

Options
I'm going with a yes, because there will be so many of us that can do it cheaper and with more mouths to feed.

But how do YOU do it?

- Do you buy ready-made meals?
- Or do you cook with fresh ingredients?

etc.

Thanks in advance.

£45 is perfectly acceptable if you enjoy your food and it is within your budget.

I won't answer your other questions because there are loads of threads on MSE devoted to this subject. Just use the Forum Search to find them.

If your question is "can it be done cheaper" - than the answer is yes - as coopdivi says there are LOTS of threads that you can search for.

However the question you have asked doesnt really have an answer. How much you spend is entirely down to you and your circumstances. If you can afford to spend £X amount then X is not "too much"
  • For me that is a lot, if you can afford it, crack on.

    We spend about £25 - £35 and that's for 2 of us.

    Pasta (dinners and lunches)
    Sauces for the pasta
    Tortilla Wraps (for lunch)
    Pukka Pies
Carrots (for lunch snacks and dinner times)
    Frozen veg
    2 minute rices
    3 for £10 deals on chicken/salmon
    Quorn chicken & mince
    Cheese
Potatoes (we do baked, mash and wedges depending on what we have)
Bottled water (cheap stuff but it's better tasting than our tap)

Then every few weeks we need household stuff, loo rolls, detergents, cleaning products

Really it's down to what you can afford and what you like to eat.
I think it's fairly easy for a person on their own who eats a lot of meat to spend £45 a week.
Having said that I have a £25 a week budget for 2 and a toddler and do just fine, we eat plenty of fruit and veg and I buy reduced good quality meat :)
I mostly cook from scratch but sometimes I buy convenience things such as microwave rice when on offer.

I do about £40 a week and theres 2 of us, one of which is a big sporting bloke so needs plenty of calories! We don't buy ready meals other than frozen pizzas when on offer, other than that I make all our meals from scratch, plus our cakes, bread and rolls

i think it depends on what you like to eat and what meals it covers..i think for a healthy diet with plenty of fruit and veg it sounds fine but be careful some peeps will tell you they spend so much less on so many more people...i find however when you drill down into the detail of what they are eating it certainly isnt what i want to feed my family...have a look on old style they have threads about budgets

I think it depends what you eat, it often isnt much more expensive to feed 2 than to feed 1. my mam lives on her own she eats well and spends around £40 on food, she does eat meat and a lot of chicken though.

I am feeding 3 and do so quite cheaply but that is because I cook from scratch a lot and I am also veggie 99% of the time but will occasionally eat fish. OH and DS do eat meat but I tend to bulk buy this so get good price.

If you are eating healthily and can afford it then I think it is fine
