scottish power default on credit file
Hi im new to this and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advise. I recently checked my credit file and have a defaults from scottish power for gas and electric at my old address. I had power meters at the address and thought it had been transferred to my current address. I changed supplier a few months later. I contacted them today and asked to repay it if they remove the default. I have agreed to repay it however they will not remove the default from my credit file. It is the only negative entry on my file. im not sure if the dates and amounts are correct as I dont have the paperwork. They have said it went to a debt collection agency but came back to them and is inactive. If they dont remove the default is there any point in paying the debt as it will remain for 6 years anyway? Any advise would be appreciated as I want to try to obtain a mortgage in a few months and the default might prevent this. Thanks

The marker remains, but it will show the debt as satisfied if you pay. That will lessen the impact on your mortgage application
If you don't dispute the debt, why would you not pay it?No free lunch, and no free laptop
