Fixed price plans and moving home

Hi,

Can anybody help? I was wondering if fixed price energy plans require you to be at the property for the length of time of the contract, or whether you could cancel these without charge? This is because I cannot guarantee that I would be living in the same house this time next year.

It seems really unfair that young people such as myself who do find themselves moving from one rental house to the next cannot take advantage of the fixed price deals (I have lived in 4 houses in the past 5 years, through University and now moving cities for jobs).

Could you get a fixed price plan and then transfer it to your new house if you do move? I guess this might be a risk considering the new property may not be supplied by the previous supplier.

All the energy comparison sites do not help as they always tell you to get fixed price plans, therefore this is now leaving me confused as to the best deal since Southern Power seem to be hiking our prices.

Thanks :o)

I am pretty sure (I may be wrong) it is the other way round - you have access to deals with penalties but do not have to pay the penalties when you flit.

It is lack of transferrable long-term fixes that is the annoyance.

No, you can't transfer a contract from one property to another. But moving house voids your contract without penalty, so you can take whatever tariff you wish.
