How strict are MBNA with 'late' payments

I'm looking for a bit of moral support right now as I'm kicking myself in the teeth.
I closed an MBNA Amazon credit card account in September, paid the balance in full and was told nothing was outstanding on the phone. The direct debit disappeared off my current account, so I didn't think anything more of it.
About 30 minutes ago, I just happened to be browsing through my spam folder, only to find a statement from MBNA, with an outstanding balance of £2.38 payable by... today.
I paid it on the spot (at around 1AM), but if I read it right, it will not show on my account till the 11th. I have used their secure messaging to contact them about it, but as I am in the middle of a mortgage application, a late payment marker would be a big blemish on an otherwise spotless credit file. The credit checks have been done, but I expect another check to be done in January, before funds are released and I'm affraid if I do get a late payment marker over this stupid amount, we might loose the mortgage.
Anybody have experience with MBNA that can tell me if they would consider this as paid on the 10th, or the 11th? Would they remove a late payment marker, considering I was verbally told there was nothing outstanding when I closed the account?
I really do feel like a fool right now, depressed and nervous...
Edit: I should add, the statement was only produced 6 days ago and I have been away on holiday for most of that time...

If the payment was made using faster payments from a bank it will be classed as received today by MBNA
If the payment was made by debit card it will take longerHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Many thanks for the faster payment tip. I paid by debit card, but I've just sent the payment a second time by faster payment, which according to the MBNA site will only take them 2 hours to process and credit to the account during business hours, so crisis averted, hopefully.0

Just to put your mind at rest, this is correct.

Also, a single, one-month late payment will be ignored by the mortgage lenders. Things go wrong now and again. They know it. It really won't be an issue.0

Don't most issuers wait a few days before recording a payment as late as well?0

Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

When I was a couple of days late once, I contacted them via their message system. Apologised and offered to set up a DD for the min amount.
They refunded the £12 and didn't mark my credit file.0 -
No, I didn't cancel the DD myself, I was actually quite careful to leave it on my account, just in case something like this happened, but they cancelled it from their end about a week after I closed the account.
Anyway, I followed my adventures of the early hours up with a phone call and they have confirmed both my payments (debit card and faster payment) are pending and will be added to my account today, so the outstanding balance has been paid on time as far as they are concerned and they will refund one of the 2 payments once the account has been put into a positive balance, so my nerves are once again at ease...0
