Faulty camera, 13 months old

My husband bought me a camera from Amazon last September (2012). Yesterday the camera wouldn't work properly (shutter error displayed on the screen). From then it got worse and now the camera won't even switch on. When I connect it to my laptop it either doesn't recognise it or I get a message saying the camera is faulty. Am I within my rights to return to Amazon for a replacement? If so, are Amazon good with returns? Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Am I within my rights to return to Amazon for a replacement?
You can certainly ask Amazon for a replacement, but as the camera is now over a year old, Amazon are within their rights to ask you to prove that the camera is inherently faulty.
An inherent fault is one that was present at the time of sale but not necessarily apparent at that time.
In other words, the problem isn't caused by mis-use or fair wear and tear.
Once it has been decided that the fault is inherent, then Amazon must provide a remedy, which could be either a repair, replacement or refund.
If a refund is decided upon, then that can be reduced to take account of the use you have had.
You can choose the remedy, but you cannot force the seller to provide a remedy that is disproportionate... so effectively the seller chooses the remedy.

Thanks. Will contact Amazon and see what they say.0
