overpayment of tax credits

Having Recently Been Told I Have Been Overpayed Tax Credits In The Region Of £3000. I Would Be Grateful Of Any Advice,i Gave All The Correct Details Etc Over The Last 3 Years, This Is Not In Dispute. However, Living Alone As A Single Person And Earning 13000 A Year I Am Now Being Told That I Do Not Have Any Entitlement To Tax Credits And The Overpayment Was My Employers Fault!

I Cannot Afford To Pay Back This Money, Nor Can I Manage Without The Tax Credits....any Advice Anyone

It definitely does sound like a mistake that you received Working Tax Credits. Your income is taking you very close (if not over) to the level that you would have a zero entitlement based on your circumstances in the post. Punching your details above into HMRC's calculator shows an award of £0.

I would recommend reading your original award notice, and posting back if you notice anything on it that seems out the ordinary.

    Hi there,

From what you are saying, you were being 'Paid Via Employer' (PVE), which is a old method of payment when Tax Credits (TC) first started.

Now the details that you have provided are not enough for me to say whether you have been overpaid.

What i believe has happened is you have notified TC that you have changed your circumstance, they have made the changes, but the employer has continued to pay you.

This is the reason they have now stopped PVE due to the shear amount of overpayments for WTC.

What you must do, is call TC and get a bit more information as to how the overpayment has occured. Once you have this you can either dispute the overpayment or make an arrangement to repay over a period of time.

    I hope this helps
