Issue with price agreed

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help with an issue.
I purchased carpet and laminate through a well know company.
Paid and agreed carpet and laminate pricing.
The fitting costs are paid direct to fitter.
They agreed a price of x amount for the laminate, and wrote on final receipt to confirm this.
I have now taken a phone call to say they cant do it for this and I will have to pay double what was agreed.
The sales guy made a big thing out of how cheap he could do it and all was agreed.
Where do I stand?
Many thanks
Jaime

So your simply saying they agreed a price subject to checking, now they've checked and find they can't sell at that amount?0

Which "well known company"?
For the purposes of my reply im assumeing carpetright (if its not compleatly disregard my entire reply). They agreed a price of x amount for the laminate, and wrote on final receipt to confirm this.
When you say final recept was this printed or handwiriten? ONLY a printed receipt (no writing on it needed) is the final receipt. Handwriten "receipts" are pre-estimate quotes and subject to change depending on actual size needed (as apposed to "guessed" size) and discounts in force at the time the order is confirmed.
Again if its not carpetright ignore my entire reply0 -

Again if its not carpetright ignore my entire replyYou might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -
receipts can be printed or handwritten or a combination of both.0

There is no general rule that handwritten receipts are not valid. Even if it is carpetright and their own 'rules' state that only printed receipts are valid, a handwritten reciept could well be upheld, especially if the customer was not given to understand exactly the status of the receipt.
i think you misunderstood what i ment. I wasnt talking about validity of the receipt. I was finding out weather or not an order had actually been placed. While its true that occationaly a hand writtern receipt may be given (computer failer etc) 99% of the time at carpetright if its hand writen its a quote if its printed its an order0 -
Thanks for the replies
It wasn't carpet right but another carpet company that also sells sofas.
The final receipt was following my payment and was printed.
As the fitting is subbed out they wrote on bottom exactly what was to pay/ outstanding to the fitters on day of fitting.
The fitting costs have no more than doubled on laminate0 -
To also say an estimate/ quote was provided before this when measurements were taken.0
