Insurance for cancellation in event of very bad weather

Does anyone know if it is possible to get insurance that covers cancellation of accommodation in the event of snow and ice making it difficult or impossible to travel within part of the UK? The accommodation would be the only costs that needed to be covered.

The trip in question is to the NE during the second part of March, mainly to attend a couple of sports events but turning it into a two week holiday. I have found details of a cottage that would suit our requirements but DH doesn't want to book until a couple of weeks before in case the weather is bad. Problem is it may not be available then and I might not be able to find anything else.

Thanks. I'm hoping that someone will come along who can suggest a company as I had a webchat with one and they don't cover what I want.

Have you asked the property owner if they have an inclement weather policy?they may let you swap dates if the property is inaccessible due to the weather.

How do you plan to travel? I guess most insurance companies wont cover you if you change your mind as the weather is a bit snowy.

They won't cover you for disinclination to travel, but will cover you if the scheduled transport is cancelled because of bad weather.

Try the post office - premium cover.

Also it might be worth taking the risk and not booking, it is not a busy time of the year, you will be able to get "something"

Thanks for responses. We would not be able to swap dates as we will only be going for the sport events so there would be no point.

We will be going by car from south of London. No question of going by public transport as I am disabled. Looks like it is not possible then.

    how much is the accommodation?

what would happend about the cost of the sporting event if you could not travel due to bad weather?

If you really want to go is it worth taking the risk and booking the accommodation?

is it far from major AA roads / motorways?

its only in very very extreme weather that motorways and A roads get blocked...
