Laptop and/or ultrabook with good battery life?

My old XP laptop (a Toshiba Satellite) is showing signs of old age and I am considering replacing it.
One of my requirements is to be able to operate away from mains power for periods of up to 8 hours occasionally. With the current laptop that is accomplished (with a bit of a struggle) with the aid of a spare battery. While I could just buy a fairly standard laptop and 2nd battery, I have noticed that some "Ultrabook" laptops claim to have quite a long running time on a charge, although in some cases via a non user swappable battery. I was looking to spend in the region of £400 ~ £500, which rules out most of the Ultrabook style laptops except perhaps the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite (http://www.samsung.com/global/ativ/ativbook9lite.html). However, once I dug into a few reviews, the battery life looks dismal on that unit (circa 4 or 5 hours with a non swappable battery). I don't want to go down the expensive Apple Macbook route, although I do envy their battery life.
So I am back to more conventional laptops and a spare battery.
Any thoughts on a reasonably priced laptop with good battery life?
