Can anyone recommend an app, free preferably that I can use on my phone for a trip in which I'll be meeting some of my son's partners Spanish speaking family , I only have a few words and I just want to be able to ask questions, whether I'll understand the answers is another story
thanks

Well that's the problem, there's no point asking questions in fluent Spanish from your phone.whether I'll understand the answers is another story
thanks
I would recommend trying to learn as bit more Spanish. When people can see that you are having a go, no matter how basic your knowledge, it goes a long way towards them making an effort to try to communicate with you. Your son or his partner are always going to be there to help out when needed.
Try something like this, maybe

Auto download with iTunes for Apple just subscribe to the podcast

Pretty sure there'll be some sort of auto download on Android tooChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
Thanks both I did find one that has useful phrases and words which I intend on trying to learn on the flight out.. but I can always just take a quick peek if I forget , well that's the intention anyway I will investigate both your suggestions too. I agree its better to try and get it wrong than no bother at all....thankyou
They speak both languages to my new grandson , how wonderful that he'll be naturally bilingual..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

SayHi Translate is quite good. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

Download Itranslate from the App Store, it will allow you to ask or type a sentence and will read it back to you, it also has a history page to store your questions that you can use off line. A great App
