Old NS&I account

I have recently found out I have an old savings account with NS&I from when I was a baby. My parents were paying into it. I have no account number, or statement etc.... I sent a letter to ns&i with copies or my ID (proof of change or name and address).... They have now sent me a letter containing my 'NS&I number'. But how do I find out how much I have?. They won't talk to me on the phone, and they won't register me for online services without me advising which investment I have with them. But I don't have any of this info.

What else, if anything, did the letter say? Has it been confirmed that NS&I has identified an account? An NS&I Number is just a number issued since a few years ago to identify each customer.
Usually people trying to trace lost accounts are pointed to http://www.mylostaccount.org.uk/ but I am not sure if this will be of any value if you given that you have opened the process directly with NS&I.0 -
It just said 'Tank you for advising us of your change of address. Please check the details below'
It was a standard 'change of address/name form'
that had been pre populated with all my info I provided (via the ID I sent). It also included the NS&I number and says....
"Please check your details. Thank you for letting us know your new details. These are shown below - please check they are displayed correctly. if anything is missing or incorrect, or if you change your details in the future, please let us know. To do this, you can either use our online and phone service (if you're registered) or complete this form and return it to us. (if you change your name you will need to let us know using the form)."
But that is it? All the info is now correct.... so I don't need to sent the form back. And that's all it says. I'm confused.Member #179 -The 'Save 12k in 2014' Challenge £1740/£50000 -

You appear to have had a dealing with NS&I's customer service and lost. This happens.
I would say that they have received your pile of ID paperwork, totally ignored your covering letter, and used the ID to update old address to new address.
Your request for information about the old account was thrown in the bin. Did you write it in VERY LARGE LETTERS and use very simple words?
When you say "is that it?" -- probably yes. You will now need to contact them again to try and get your original question answered, and I wish you good luck with that -- having recently had a very trying exchange with them, I think it's just standard service level now.
They won't talk to you on the phone about it if they aren't satisifed you are who you say you are. I was asked for a "password" that I didn't have, and never set up. They refused to do anything about anything until I provided it. They refused to tell me who set it up, or when. I asked for a written explanation of this (and other problems) and got sent a "how to cancel your bonds form".
Clueless. As I said, try again,and good luck!0 -
Thanks for your reply. I thought I would speed the process up by sending my request and my ID at once, as I knew they would only ask for ID further down the line. It appears I should have sent a very simple plain letter, and awaited a request for ID.
I may just try and use the mylostaccount website and see if that makes a difference.Member #179 -The 'Save 12k in 2014' Challenge £1740/£50000 -
It may be worth using the form referred to on the MyLostAccount site that I provided a link for above.
