O/S Daily Thread Wednesday 9th Oct 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Damp here and colder, apparently we could have gales and snow! Think we may be a little too South for the snow but you never know.

The Surveyor came yesterday to refresh the home report (yes, we still have the stupid thing here in Scotland), but it was favourable so hopefully everything will still be on track. I can't relax about this move until I know everything is signed and sealed!

Our HT is getting married on Saturday so we had a staff night out last night to a tapas restaurant which was lovely - we all took a little gift for her to open and it was quite amusing there were some nice gifts and some a little naughty but all in good taste. I was picking her up on my way so decorated the car with ribbons and had a mini bottle of champers ready for her when she got in. Lovely evening and not too late for a school night!

Made chicken casserole in the SC for DD yesterday so she will take some of what's left for lunch, I have salad. Salmon for tea. Washing still hanging about inside and house a bit of a state, must throw it in boxes and it will look tidier!

    Take care. XX

    Morning BB

Im tired this morning , no change there, off to work in a mo.

Need to do a shopping list when I get back and I haven't sorted tea out. We had fish and chips from a new chippy last night and they were lovely , a bit pricey so will have to be an occasional treat

bb I think I may do corned beef hash for tea now too :p:T

Have a good day everyone xx
  • Good morning everyone :)

Day off today and have a few things planned. Need to see builder about yet more repairs to the roof. It was fixed this time last year but looks like the builder our neighbour employed was a total cowboy. It's falling apart again and so now we need to spend more money on it

Also want to nip into town and buy some Christmas bits and pieces for DD and GDD. I wants PJs and undies and things from Primani and there is no way I will go near that shop during a weekend, it's bedlam.

We have rain now and more is due until around lunchtime/early afternoon, then it's due to brighten up later. So will leave putting the overnight load of washing out until I get back from my shopping.

No dinner to make tonight as DH is working at college open evening so will probably just make myself a salad.

Managed to sell a few little bits on ebay yesterday so if I get paid for those, will make a trip to the post office too.

Molly - I hope you are feeling better after your procedure yesterday? I have done a lot of research work on Botox for pain, so it was interesting to hear about it in practice on a patient and I hope it is successful.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs them or just wants them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

  • Morning BB and all who cross/follow
Chilly here today but due to get colder soon.
Molly, I hope the injections work.
Hubby's been fed and dropped at work, I shall have breakfast and a shower and then go to work myself.
My first knitted teddy is done all bar sewing up and stuffing, next I'm going to fiddle with the pattern and try a different one.
it's my oldest DGD's b'day Thursday and I actually remembered to post a card y'day, hopefully she'll get it ok, her present I'll give her when I see her.
I've sorted out a bag of tops to pass on to someone I work with as they are too big for me, even if I put all the weight back on I still won't be able to wear tops and trousers, only dresses.
We had a meeting at work to explain the new appraisal system that's due to start, cue much excitement from some staff who have been grieved about our lack of pay rises, but it seems we will not get a pay rise whatever happens so I can't see many people making great efforts to make their new targets. My last 3 line managers gave up trying to set targets for me as they couldn't think of anything, for example I can't increase productivity as my work output depends on what I'm given to do. Oh well, it will give everyone something else to moan about.
    Time I made my porridge.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

Supposed to ge getting much colder here from today but no sign of it yet, still mild for the moment.

Day off today :T so I shall crack on with the house work once I am back from dropping dd at the station, I will then prepare dinner and go and spend some time with my dad, we are hoping that mum will come out today too so I may have to go and collect her.

Not sure whats for dinner, I think there might be some pork chops in the freezer if so I will do a roast with them, (we also ended up with fish and chips last night as I did not get in till 5 and was back out by 6 !

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Cloudy and dry here this morning. Felt much cooler when I put washing on the line, and weather is supposed to turn from later today.

DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was at normal time and we had roast chicken pieces, mashed potato, green beans, carrots, leeks, brocolli and gravy. Tonight will probably be gammon steaks, egg, onion sauce, mash, and peas.

Work yesterday was thankfully slower but still had times where we were really busy. We'll see what today brings. Only working until lunchtime today then have the normal chores to do - a couple of those are things I must get sorted today/tomorrow. Will utilise tomorrow and Friday the best I can so I can keep on top of everything as house is starting to look a bit of a tip again. Also will need to do some baking/cooking as tins are empty and menfolk are moaning!

    Keep safe and well x

No idea what the weather is like outside - it looks chilly but we don't have our heating on and the house isn't cold, so it might not be chilly outside!
Off to work again today. Didn't get out until 20 past 8 last night! Stopped at mcdonalds on the way home for a very quick tea, ate that when I got home then straight to bed!
Work is going to be absolutely manic tomorrow and Friday as all the systems go offline for an upgrade. It's great for the staff as they will be given lots of different activities and training packages to go through, but it's going to be a nightmare for us managers as we have a lot of things we have to cram into 2 days while the systems are off. Same thing next week...

Oh well, all I can do today is try and be as prepared as possible for it all. The whole centre is having a charity day tomorrow for a local cancer charity with loads of raffles etc and each section is doing something 'big'. The other sections are donating big hampers to the raffles, but our section is putting on a huge buffet that people need to make a donation to be able to have some! So I need to go shopping tonight for crisps etc!

I'd best start getting myself ready! Hope everyone has a good day!
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j

    Morning all,

Much cloudier here today but the forecast shows some sun later.
    Washing is in the machine.
A bit of a quiet day today. Thought I might have a go at making a sock monkey as I may make one for each of the kids for christmas if it turns out ok.

DS2 is out for dinner tonight so me and DH may have a curry.

    Have a good day everyone.

Bit gloomy down here in Kent.

Have decided to try and make different sorts of bread, love baking and cake making but trying not to eat too much cake so bread seemed a better idea. A trawl through the cookbooks with a cuppa on the cards today I think to see what I need.

Hugs to those that need them
