My rights? Cosmetic Return due to itching

Options
Hi,
I brought a product from Forever Flawless foolishly (but that's another story). I am trying to return it.

It caused me to come up in an itch, and would also like to get the money back. It's over £100(!). All items remain unopened. The itching and slight rash came from just the sample.

I went to the store, and they said that they could not return the item in the store, and told me to email customer service. I emailed yesterday, and they said they would only give a refund if I could show them a official letter from a GP. I don't want to bother my doctor about a problem I had once, and I really don't want to open the product and re-apply, just to get more irritation.

Could someone please advise me on my rights?

Thanks,
Nate

Did you buy it in store or online?

If online how long ago was it delivered?

As you bought it in store I dont believe you have any right to anything, its up to the stores own policy.

Just wondering why you spent £100 on new makeup that you were not sure would suit when samples were clearly available. They will probably say they give ample opportunities for people to find out allergies etc before purchase by providing them.

    Did you buy it online?

    Oops - cross posted!
  • I brought it in store. Last Friday.

@marliepanda I know bad decision! Don't worry don't be doing that again. Was one of those silly impulse buys that goes to usually regret.

In that case you are bound by the store's returns and refund policy, if they say no then there is nothing you can do.

Does it have any sort of money back guarantee?

You could always try to sell it on ebay and maybe make some of your money back if not all of it.

Is this one of these free trail things?
  • No guarantee :( Which says a lot.

Not a trial, actually brought it. Was in central London. But wish I had not....

Thanks for the eBay idea, had not thought of that.

So you tried the sample and bought it anyway without knowing the results? You have no rights here.

I think you're on rather shaky ground but even so, you might have some joy with your GP. A particularly sympathetic one might be prepared to endorse your experience even without seeing the irritation, based on your description of what happened. It's just a thought - TBH, not sure if I'd want to take up a GP's time with this but that's your choice to make.

I used to be allergic to a number of cosmetics, it wasn't really the cosmetics fault, it was because I have sensitive skin.
