What does this mean please.

Since AVG2104 was introduced, I am getting a box with a message

"avgui.exe failed to start because mfc110u.dll was not found"

I remove it and proceed, so seemingly it can't mean much, or does it?

It means it can't find the mfc110u.dll

Try re-installing AVG and see if that fixes it.

But before I do, it my connection has crashed 17 times in 40 mins.

Followed through and scanned, result:-

Malware 0
Performance 5
Privacy 103
Junk 2968

It said "fix all" but needed to register but wasn't able to with no code, so am stuck.

So you mean remove avg totally fro add/remove then reinstall it ?

Might have a job if you need to re-download AVG now. Their site got hacked this morning, and is still not back up. Can probably get it from CNet or File Hippo or similar.

Edit: Of course, as soon as I write that, their site comes back up. Ok ignore me.

that's interesting, but will wait and see if I have understood the instructions to remove avg and reinstall it first.

No. Use the removal tool otherwise you will not uninstall completely and may affect the reinstall.

OK closed, by that am I to understand remove avg via add/remove then install via your link, avast?

If this is so, then I will do it tomorrow as something else beckons and I have a headache (ah). Thanks to you all for monitoring this, much appreciated.

Basically closed is saying - remove AVG and ditch it altogether, and use Avast instead.

But it's probably still worth using the tool noted, to be sure AVG is fully removed.
