Can online shopping be as cheap as Aldi?

Today I have been to Morrisons, Home Bargins and Aldi. I have mobility problems and suffer from fatique.

When I got home I had to have a nice sit down and a cuppa before I could even think of putting the stuff away.

When I complain about how wrecked doing the food shopping makes me my husband says, I'll come with you- like that's going to help, will defo cost more or shop online like I did when I worked full time. But as I can no longer work due to illness and I have been turned down for DLA.

So can online shopping be as cheap as a no frills supermarket?

We are a family of 4 inc 2 boys 12 and 14, we do not eat ready meals, have a roast once a week and normal food the rest of the time?

Any ideas?

Tesco and Sainsbury have their value ranges.

Offers are easier to spot. (not trekking the stores)

(Ocado/Waitrose have their essentials range)

You'd have to factor in a delivery fee but there maybe cheaper / free delivery slots (outside peak periods) and if you are a regular shopper, there are delivery bundle/pass options.


You could try each of them with sign-up money off first order vouchers, cash-backs etc. (see how you go)

MySupermarket compares a basket, never used them though to place an order.

I think it definitely can. My cupboards were always heaving as I would pop special offers into my trolley which I didn't need or buy an item only to get home and realise I already had one.

I have a set food budget each week and I find it much easier with online shopping to keep to it. I always review the basket at the end and delete items if I need to so I stick to budget. Much better than having that dread feeling at the till as they tell you how much you have spent.

I love Ocad0. They offer £20 off your first £80 shop. They have free delivery slots late in the day and as you checkout they offer Flash sale items, for example we have had 1/2 price chickens, pork chops or this week breaded prawns.

About once a month I visit aldi and stock up on crisps, cereals and lunch box fillers, but other than that we don't enter a sm

If you use the supermarket deliveries to stock up on stuff when it is on special offer, you can then do short trips to Aldi or Home Bargains just to buy the other things you need.

Try it for a while and keep records and see how it goes.

I find it cheaper as you know what your buying. Delivery might be abit steep though.

I find it helps me save money as I only buy what I need.
I'm not tempted with goodies online as I am in the shop.

Be savvy about your delivery slots to keep the costs down.

have a look at approved food - you can stock up on non-perishables like pasta, rice, canned things and drinks. I order from them every 4-6 weeks. At the moment we're still using a catering size pack of spaghetti bought in May, and 40 mini naan breads - which I like way better than pittas. Once I've put my order in to them, I do my online shop with Asda or Tesco - seems to cut down my shopping list

needn't be either or: why not online once or twice a month and rotate round aldi and major supermarkets the other weeks? Tinned and frozen could be delivered and if you have the space milk could be frozen, then the rest of the shops would be a lot easier.
