You will be limited to that company for both broadband and phone and might not get better service.
Not true. You can have BB from Virgin Media without a phone.

I have Sky BB and BT phone, but you can't do that any more you have to have voice and data with the same supplier.Signature removed club member No1.
It had no link, It was not to long and I have no idea why.0 -
If you have a BT based line regardless of who the calls are billed by there are hundreds of ISPs who will provide internet services. You may find that some of the major players either insist or offer discounts if you take a bundle of course.
I had a faulty phone line although it was noise rather than not working at all. After 5 visits from the boys with muddy boots and still no fix I gave up and went to cable using Vonage VOIP for a home phone.0 -

No you don't, only if you have an LLU line. Plenty of suppliers offer standalone broadband. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Yes but he is talking about moving phone to cable so he will have to use them for broadband.0 -
I was told it was a local network fault although my other line without internet access is unaffected - they also said they did'nt need access to the premises
Local network means everything between you and the exchange. It could still be that the fault is in a major cable with no spares or it could be something simple. like a break in one of the many joints along the way.
They'll get it sorted eventually. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
