Please microchip your pets!

My friend has just had her cat returned that went missing 7 months ago after the vet checked him for a chip :) One very relieved owner. :j

So please, make sure to chip your cats and dogs! (By law, ALL dogs should be already chipped)

  • Our pup was chipped at the same time as his second set of injections. It's a new style thermo-chip that not only records his details but also emits his temperature, so the vet can scan it for a reading rather than sticking the thermometer where the sun don't shine. Sigh of relief all round I think, for a great idea.

  • We had to take a dog to the council kennels a few weeks ago, wandering around with no collar tag or micro-chip :( Turned out he was only from a few roads away, but how us anyone to know that if you can't be bothered to even have a tag on them

Not until 2016 in England. It should definitely be compulsory, along with insurance (at the very least, third party).

What lovely news for your friend about their cat. :)

Agree totally. So sad when people ring me up looking for their lost cat, and they tell me it's not chipped. They so wish that they could turn back the clock......

I got ours microchipped when they were neutered even though they are house cats. I'd hate for them to get out and never find their way home. So glad your friend had a happy outcome :)

Please also microchip your pet ferrets. It is so disheartening when we receive a ferret that someone has found wandering. They are usually lovely with an excellent temperament and must be sorely missed pets but we are rarely able to return them to their owners if they are not microchipped.

Having chipped your pet, please remember to update the contact details if you move, change phone number etc.
