Infrared heating panels

Hi everyone,

I've been renting an apartment for just over a year. It's an old building with some damp issues - last winter was tough and expensive with regards to heating. This year I really want to be ready for the winter. I've looked into some heating alternatives but some are just not practical since I'm renting.

A company recommended infrared heating panels. They are costly to buy but if they really work I'd go for it. And that's my question: is there anyone out here that has first hand experience? I searched the web and I have found many debates and lots of publicity but no reviews from people who use this type of heating in their home.

I would really appreciate to hear from anyone who actually uses it in their home.

Thank you!

    Hi,
Im assuming that you dont have natural gas central heating then?
Infra red heaters are better at heating stuff than the air which is good, if you can cope with the light that the emit as well.

Otherwise your stuck with either conventional convector, fan or oil filled radiators.

An alternative which i would highly reccomend is an air to air heat exchanger (see link for DIY) or professionally installed branded model aprox £1000. these will pay for themselves in a couple of years

They are the same efficiency as any form of electric heating, i.e. 100%.
So, even if they were just a fiver more than the alternative, you'd never get any saving back. But I suspect they are much more than that-how much more?

Starting at about £300. There's no actually light. They're about the size and width of a whiteboard. I can't post a link but you can do a search for infrared panel heaters. People are confusing them with what you might see in a garage.

No in-house heating. I bought an oil heater last year - dreadful thing!

So you'll pay about 15 times more than you would for a cheap convector with the same output? How long do you think it will take you to recover that £300 investment in electricity savings?

That's how I should be thinking about it. It was such an awful winter for me last year I'm a little desperate. I can't argue with what you've asked. Time to face the facts. I was told there were some old threads about this topic - gonna have a search.

I've been looking into that here. It needs installation, right? It would be great. The thing is I'm renting so can't really install anything. I live in a the south of Spain and heating in a house is not the norm.
