    Morning everyone,

Sorry I haven't updated in a few days. Well I have been really good. I even stayed in at the weekend :-) (This was really hard but I enjoyed it)

I called my bank and sorted a few things out. Checked my exact dates when my 0% on my cards runs out and recorded them in my diary with a reminder a few weeks before. They are actually longer away than I thought so I am happy with that.

I sorted through my clothes and identified some things to be sold on eBay, these are ready in a pile now for a free listing day.

I have also agreed to reduce the amount I spend on Christmas and I am hoping that any of the money I have left from the savings I have put away all year will go off my debt.

I haven't really done anything else apart from cook extra meals and put them away in the freezer, but I am hoping to do one money saving thing before the day is out. I am not sure what that will be but I will do something.

    xx

well done, ringing the bank and getting organised, and especially not going out at weekend! don't "hermit" yourself though, try and get together with friends still, but in a cheaper/ free way?

    good luck:T

Thanks asparagus1968 theres no risk of me becoming a hermit but I actually enjoyed just being in the house for a change rather than rushing around and going out so much.

9 days to go till pay day and it can't come soon enough.

  • Hi Poppy93

Good luck with your journey although you sound so positive and have done really well so far. I have subscribed as I also live alone and want to see what hints and tips arise from cutting back on socialising and clothes and make up and shopping more efficiently for food / having less waste / eating healthy after exercise.

Can't wait to see how you get on :)

    Morning everyone.

Thanks for your support. Well it's Friday and I am so pleased it's the weekend soon. This week I have been good but feel I could have been better. Think I need to push myself a little more as the quicker I get into the scrimping mode the better.

I do have a question for people, I earn more money than some of my friends and because they know I do they believe I have more disposable income, you all know this is wrong. I have mentioned several times since my light bulb moment that I am saving and cutting back however I went to the pub the other day for a quick catch up . (I felt gulity for going but this is still a marked improvement on my past socialising so I am not going to be too hard on myself, cold turkey is hard!!) I ended up paying for the round of drinks however when it came to me finishing my drink he decided it was time to go. I felt pretty annoyed  that I ended up paying and he had a free night out. If I'd known it was only one drink I would have just paid for my own. I don't really want to tell everyone that I am scrimping but I want to be a little more forceful when it comes to paying for stuff. Any tips?? However on a positive socialising note, Ive had an invite to a free cocktail night in a few weeks so I will class that as my weeks socialising :T:A

What is everyone else doing today to save/not spend?

    xx

  • Out of interest do you pay your student loan separately somehow (or are you self employed?) I thought it was PAYE and therefore came out before tax on your wages?

    Hi

Re your phone, I rang them up when I was in a contract and explained that I was struggling to make ends meet, blah blah, grovel grovel, in a nice manner and asked if there was any thing they could do to help me.

Which resulted in the lady at the end of the phone reducing the contact by £20 per month, for the same amount of minutes / text etc.

So it could be worth you doing the same, at least if you ring and they say no, you will have tried.

Have you also checked your bank/s to make sure you are not paying any direct debits / standing orders you no longer need?

    Good luck.

In the last year or two of your loan you can revert to paying by DD so you have more control at the end. I know a few people who have swapped as you end up paying for whole years and claiming back the money otherwise. This way I only pay the exact amount and it's easier to overpay.

I tired ringing re my contract and my friend managed to get it reduced by £10 a month as they do work for them. It's not quite as good as your reduction but it's a reduction afterall :-)
