Paid money into the wrong bank account

It says payment accepted. If your payment was paid to a current account it will be credited within 2 hours of the time it was made.
Barclays have told me it will say this even if the other bank accept it and put it in a reserve or holding account.0 -

What are the chances that his old details have been given to a new customer?
Slim to non existent in that time frame0 -
Faster Payments don't go if they can't be delivered to the receiving bank account. You just get an error message and the money is credited straight back to your account.
Looks like your landlord has got your money - or it's disappeared into his overdraft. If he's going to deny having it, you could have a problem."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -

I have the bank investigating it at the moment.0 -

Just don't make another payment to your landlord until you've got the original payment back.
My money is on the first payment currently sitting in your landlord's account.0 -
Of course, it much easier to tell the LL you are in credit by the amount you paid. As it was not returned, the account is still active and will show a credit balance. Assuming you have the details of the transfer, then the ball is in his court.0

I've had a reply from my landlord that he has sorted it on his end with his previous bank and receipt for the payment of the rent.
What a relief for me as I am a student struggling for money and its nice that he even helped me sort it out as his bank would not speak to me due to Data Protection.
He could have easily made this tough for me but instead did the nice thing and helped me out.
Life lesson learnt for sure. Thanks to the replies on here as well. You learn new things all the time and I learnt to be more careful and how the sort code and account number system for banking works.0 -
The least he could do as he actually should have notified you about the change to his bank details before your rent payment was due."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0

A sensible thing to do is to obtain the bank details on each occasion you make a large payment. That way if the recipient makes a mistake, you can require them to cover any loss.0
