Citroen C2 head unit advice

Hi folks. Hoping someone can help here.

I'm looking to install a new stereo in a 2003 C2 VTR. Has anyone had any experience with this. If so, what process did you follow to ensure safe installation and that it wouldn't mess up any of the other electrics? Central locking, dash, etc?

Thanks

Never changed one in a C2, but usually you just need an ISO cable - to convert the head unit plug into a generic connector to plug the new stereo into. Then you'll probably need the fascia / surround if it's one of those stereos that's build into the console.
Usually an easy job if they've still got the original cabling in. It's only when somebody else has done a hack job (instead of using an ISO kit), that it gets messy.

And dont forget to inform your insurance. This seemed to pop up with a fair few insurers. Is it the factory fitted stereo.

  • Thanks for the replies, guys.

I pickled up the ISO cable part number 947528 yesterday. I have read somewhere that I have to unclip the positive from the battery before unhooking old and hooking up new. This is so is doesn't mess up the other electrics. Can anyone confirm this method?

I've never disconnected the battery before replacing a head unit. If I was going to start chopping at wires I probably would

This is what info I do have. Would this make sense to you?

After you have got the lead, follow these simple steps to fit your Headunit.

    1) Take out any CD's/Tapes of the standard headunit, so you dont lose them :)
    2) Disconnect Battery by the Postive lead (+/Red) by unclipping it and removing it from the battery.
    3) Remove the standard headunit.
    4) Fit Multiplex lead from Citroen, match up with the colours from the cars wiring to the lead and thats where it needs to go and, if applicable, fit your stalk control adaptor.
    5) Fit your brand spanking new beautiful sounding aftermarket headunit.
    6) Reconnect Battery.
    7) Turn on your new headunit, make sure it works ok.
8 ) Make sure all electrics are working, like windows, central locking.

    And thats it!! Your done!!

    Yep.

But if you're putting in an after market head unit, using an ISO connector. I'd shorten it to:
remove tapes / cd's from old stereo.
Remove old stereo and disconnect wires
    connect ISO leads
    plug in new stereo.
    push it back into place.

    job done.

When you've got the old stereo hanging out and the ISO connector in front of you. You'll see the connectors on the back of the stereo, look at the ISO connector, back at the stereo and just think.... err right, is that it. and you'll be done in about a minute.

As above. Usually the most difficult bit is removing the trim etc around the old unit and getting the thing actually out. Once you have done that with a ISO lead it is a doddle.

Then in Haynes style refitting is the reverse of removal!
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • Thanks again, guys. I gave it a shot while making sure the computer was on standby, not eco mode, etc. Disconnected stock stereo and connected it all up. Cage was a little tight, but managed to ease it into remaining space. Yellow and red cables were already swapped in my previous car setup and all presets stayed as were. i.e. Top results.

Not as difficult as other forums suggest. Many thanks for the help, chaps.
