When did I pass my test?

For the first time, I have to get car insurance in my name. How do I find out when I passed my driving test?

It was rather a long time ago, and, having failed first time, I was on my second provisional licence and the pass certificate for nearly a year, before getting my full licence.

All it says is that my previous licence expired on 31.10.1977 and that this one is valid from 01.11.1977 to 09.06.2025.

If all else fails, could I use 01.11.1977?

Just looked at my new-style licence. On the back it tells me that I passed my bike test in1980 and car in 1988.

Not sure BUT I think they only ask new drivers for the actual date. Whenever I have insured a car they have a drop down box which has Under 3 years, Over 3 years.
