Dog with allegies?
Comments

Well I have had my meeting with the vet and sadly he confirmed everything that you have all told me. It would be a huge undertaking to have such a dog with severe allergies and the last thing anyone would want would be for it to end up back at the home. He pointed out the costs involved as well as the likelihood of her being allergic to something in my house. her medication has her condition under control in the kennels but the environment is controlled. Anyway reluctantly I have had to walk away from this one. Thank you for all your advice. Hopefully our next trip to find a pet will be more successful.0

My dog had a blood test to determine his allergies so we knew exactly what we were dealing with instead of guessing-he was a rescue and I would not swap him for the world, but it can be stressful seeing him so itchy. I refuse to put him on steroids unless absolutely necessary, and my vet agrees and says I manage it well. Here's what I do:
He's allergic to corn, yeast and eggs, so these are eliminated from his diet, he is actually fed raw food but I appreciate this is not for everyone.
He's allergic to dust mites, so has plastic bedding with blankets-no foam or cushions that can harbour mites. It helps that we have wood floors throughout the house but I spray soft furnishings regularly with indorex mite spray. He is also allergic to storage mites and I used to store his dry food in a chest freezer to kill them, but that's not a problem now I feed raw.
He us allergic to various trees, plants and grasses so after every walk I wash him down. With the nice summer we've had he has really suffered, constantly biting his paws and I am looking at getting him some dog boots for next year.
It sounds alot of work, but is just our routine now. My last dog was epileptic so compared to his medication regime and seizure management this is nothing! ;-) good luck0 -
We also use a brill cream by Aromesse when he has a flare up, and he has a cotton t-shirt which stops him rubbing his belly. Just got to work out how to stop him rubbing his bum on the back of the sofa now! 😳0
