Handleless kitchen design - advice on fully integrated dishwashers

Hi,
I'm considering a true handleless kitchen and I need to make a decision on a fully integrated dishwasher. Some dishwashers are a bit taller (84.5cm) than the standard ones (80.5cm in height) which would appeal to me as there is more room at the top for taller glasses, etc. My dishwasher will be in the middle of a run of base units and I'm a bit at a loss what to do about the continuous horizontal grip that runs throughout.
Do people choose the grip to run on the door, meaning that we will open the dishwasher door through a J handle type groove, so that the horizontal grip stays with the door when it is open. Or do people choose the grip to stay behind the dishwasher when the door is open.
I'm not sure what is or looks better. What would you do?

Why isnt your kitchen designer able to advise you on this? Really shouldnt be down to you to decide this. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

My kitchen designer said it is possible to have it either way, so it's up to me to decide which way to go. I'm inclined to go with the continuous grip and select a dishwasher that can be opened at a push. But I was wondering what other people with handleless kitchens and integrated dishwashers went for.
Would it help if I go for a semi-integrated dishwasher or that just really complicates things? Many thanks.0 -
It depends on the handleless kitchen you are buying. Unless you have a 780mm or higher carcase you might struggle to get the extra height dishwasher in. This shouldn't be a problem with a lot of German kitchens.
I wouldn't break the recess. If you have to compromise you may as well buy just any handleless kitchenWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I wouldn't spend significantly extra money for dishwashing taller glasses.
What's the back up if the push opening fails? Do they give you an L shaped tool just in case?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
I have a handle less kitchen with an integrated dishwasher, the dishwasher door opens at as you pull onto the door at the top. I don't really understand the problem!?0

Thanks everyone for their feedback.
@Ryder72 - I'm considering a Schuller kitchen, their Nextline range. I do understand that I'll be fine with a standard model (which is 80.5cm) as my preference is to have a continuous grip, of course.
I'm also looking at semi-integrated dishwashers - how would that work in a handleless kitchen - will I have a continuous grip on top coming from the units and another one on the door itself, just below the fascia, so that I am able to open the dishwasher?
Decisions, decisions....0 -
@ Ognum - there is no problem with a standard height model, as the grip will be just below the worktop and then you can pull the door open from the top.
My question was if the dishwasher is extra tall (4cm higher), then the appliance finishes just below the worktop and then you can't fit the grip on the unit, but it will probably have to be integrated on the door itself, like a J handle type of door, IYSWIM.0 -
Hi Audrey01
With a Next125 handless kitchen you have 2 options for fully integrated dishwashers. The 1st is to have a standard height dishwasher where the top of the dishwasher goes just below the handless channel. The other option to accommodate a taller dishwasher is to have the alternative door that is thicker and has the aluminium handless channel all built into the door, all you will see is a little break in the channel on each side of the dishwasher. We have this dishwasher door option in both of our showrooms with taller dishwashers in Next125 handless kitchens.
Semi integrated dishwashers are not an option in handless channel kitchens.

Thanks CK - that's what our kitchen designer said about the tall dishwasher, that the grip will be built into the door and when you open it, it will be on the door.
Why is a semi-integrated dishwasher not an option in a handleless kitchen?
I'm considering a Miele dishwasher like this: http://www.miele.co.uk/dishwashers/G6310-Sci-CLST-387/#tab-specs
and it seems the handle is integrated in the fascia with the buttons/controls? If it's standard height, the aluminium channel will still run at the top and I can open the dishwasher from the handle integrated in the fascia, no?0 -
Hi Audrey01
Nah - you can't put a semi-integrated dishwasher into a handless channel kitchen. Fitting it as you describe would mean fitting the dishwasher under the channel which would mean the top of the dishwasher door would be a good 15mm lower than the top of the furniture doors on each side, it would look awful!
The whole principal of a handless kitchen is to have all the appliances completely hidden, with the only exception of the ovens.
