Best time to plant Honeysuckle

Is it possible to plant Honeysuckle in October (Scotland). I moved house and took some cuttings and planted them temporarily in a large container (they still look healthy).

Should I just keep them in the large pot over winter then transplant to establish in new area next Spring or should I even attempt to plant them now.

I'm a novice gardener so not quite sure.

It depends on where in Scotland. What are the local winters like?

If it's going to be bitter winds and days and nights of freezing temps, give your cuttings a better chance of survival by protecting them over the winter.

IMHO putting out newly rooted cuttings is chancy, unless it's a very sheltered, well drained position.

I'd pull the container against the south facing house wall and put a horticultural fleece over when the frost comes.
  • Would they fare better if I put them in the garage to protect them over winter as well as covering them with the fleece? How often would I water them?

Thanks again, your advice is much appreciated.

Coldframe would be ideal, but I reckon not garage as too dark (esp. in Scottish winter). The lee of a south facing wall should be OK, it's cold plus wet that is the problem in Scotland!

Are they the scented climber or the shrubby type?
  • It's the scented climber variety.

ah, sorry, didn't check back - I agree with ihavespoken, not to keep them in garage. A coldframe would be ideal, failing that caver with fleece.
