Outdoor light at end of garden - is this possible?!

Hi all,
I'm buying a flat, and have a share of garden. However, it's the very end of the garden, so I'm worried it will be very dark at night. It's probably 40ft(?) away from any power supply. Is there a way of having a mains supplied outdoor light in my bit of the garden, or am I stuck with solar powered/battery powered lights?
If an electric light would be possible, how would this work practically? Even as I'm thinking about it, I'm guessing it's probably not possible, as I have no idea how the cabling would work and where it would go..
Sorry if this is an incredibly stupid question, I have absolutely no understanding of lighting/wiring!

it would be possible, but the cabling would need to be special 'armoured' tough cable to withstand outdoors. It's not cheap, but best to get an electrician or two around to give you a quote
You might also think about how often you will use the garden when it's really dark - in the summer months it's light until 9.30 pm anyway.....

Thanks! Good to know that it's at least possible. Don't suppose you can give even a really rough idea of a cost? Even just whether we'd be talking hundreds, thousands etc?Mortgage received 21/12/2018

When my house was built there was a lot of BT PVC tubing lying around.
I just fed 50 feet of extension cable through it (after removing the socket that was on it) and whenever I want my exterior light on I just plug it in.Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:0 -
What possible attraction has the bottom of the garden when it's dark. But easy enough to do, if a bit expensive.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
I think the first thing you need to decide is what you want the light for.
If it is just for a bit of light while you are sat out with friends on a late summer evening then have you thought of something like a camping gas lantern?0 -
We bought some really good solar lights for the end of our garden (100' from the house).

When the bottom of the garden is the only bit of garden you have, quite a lot.Mortgage received 21/12/2018

It's mainly for that, but I also have a lot of barbecues, so would be good to have a proper light so that you can make sure you're not eating undercooked chicken! I'm not too worried about the cost, it would be something I'd put in at a later date when I have more money, so a camping lantern is a good interim solutionMortgage received 21/12/2018

I definitely intend to get some solar lights as well. Do you find them bright enough to sit out in? Whenever I've had solar lights in the past, they've always been pretty rubbish, but maybe they've improved since then.Mortgage received 21/12/2018

The cost will depend on a lot of things including how up to date your fuse board is. You might be looking at a day of work perhaps?? Rates round here (London) for a day are around £300. Materials - maybe £50???
Just a guess!0
