    Thanks a lot guys

I will check the wording of her policy tonight, she definitely is insured to drive other cars but I will read through the whole thing when she gets home. If it does have that restriction though, InsideInsurance you mentioned temporary insurance - if I were to get her insured for 1 day on that car, I presume she would be fine to take that documentation and pick up my car?

Also another thing that just occurred to me - if my court summons takes around 3 months, which the officer indicated it might, can I insure myself on the cae carr for those 3 months before the court date without mentioning anything to the insurance company as technically at this point I have no points or convictions? Or would I have to mention that something is coming up?

If I don't get it insured, my Dad works & lives in a private rugby club - would I be legally able to store the car in the car park there instead of SORN'ing it?

Thanks a lot for your responses

If the vehicle is going to be uninsured then it needs to be sorned and the tax disc returned for a refund.

Why wasn't your 7 day insurance valid?

Hi guys, thanks for the responses, I'm trying to sort this out now but it's proving a complete nightmare.

My Mum phoned her insurance and she can't use that to pick up my car. I tried looking into getting PAYG insurance but that is going to cost half as much as the car is worth for one month.

Is there a way that I can transfer the car into my Mum's name, get her insured on it and bring it home that way? Frankly as it stands right now it looks as though I'm going to have to sell it because whatever the courts do my insurance is going to at least triple and there's no way I can afford that.

Yes, I was going to insure the car, and the 7 day policy can't be argued because it looks as though the guy I bought it off of was mistaken (not the owner, just someone who worked there) and it was 24hr insurance not 7 days. Totally my fault, I should have checked. I accept all blame entirely, I just need a way of getting my car back now and I'm running out of options.

I appreciate all the help guys, thanks

The easiest option is to buy day insurance for it.

Then get it off the road (the rugby car park isn't off the road if the public use it to park in), and sort out a policy or sorn it asap.

Thanks Quentin, I checked out day insurance and they don't cover recovering impounded vehicles, sadly. Thanks for letting me know about the car park

Buy a policy. Use it today.

Cancel it as soon as the car is off the road.

The policy is £750 for a PAYG one (the only type I can find that would allow me to recover the vehicle) and it looks as though they want it paying all at once - there is no way I can afford that :(

Another thing to remember is to collect it as soon as possible as fees may be mounting up.

I had an issue recently where my BiL's van was impounded due to not having insurance, anyway to cut a long story short we ended up having to pay 390 pounds to have it released as ontop of the initial 150 they charged 20 per day storage and it was 12 days before it was collected.

We had arranged insurance and he had presented documents to the police and I went to collect it as he was working and we had to arrange for it to be towed, but they would not release it to me as I was not the registered keeper and it did not state on the police documents that it could be released to me even though I had all the paperwork from my BiL. So make sure you get all the paperwork correct and be there in person when it is collected.

Problem is the longer you leave it the bigger the storage charge (on top of any fines coming your way).

Can't you get someone to pay the premium (for a standard policy) on a credit card. Then cancel it today after getting the car.

The credit card won't have to be paid for weeks, the refund will be on the account, so all that you have to pay is whatever they charge for a day plus any admin fee.

Get your mum to temporarily change her insurance over to your car (But make sure her car is safe as it will not therefore be insured if someone crashes into it or it gets stolen etc)

As soon as you get your car home and off road transfer her insurance back to her own car.

Although not sure how this would work nowadays as her car would be uninsured but not SORN for a day, but I don't see any major issue - I doubt you would get fined for this, but I don't knwo how the system works

Alternatively - contact local garages and see if any of them can transport the car for you (without being driven)
