Advice needed changing G&E suppliers!

Hello all,

I am not usually one for changing my supplers frequently but now feel I need to seek advice on my Gas & Electricity suppliers.

I am currently with SSE for both utiities, a prepayment meter for electric and quarterly billing for the Gas. I have spoken to SSE and they say they can change the electric meter for a billed one for £52 and put me on a 1 year fixed rate.

For my Gas, I am on a 'general domestic - moneysaver' tariff. they say they again can put me on a fixed rate for one year. I live in a one bedroom privately owned flat, running a gas back boiler unit & water cyinder and have noted here the info for the prepayment meter (I know how extract the info but dont know really what these rates/figures refer to). I am not eligable for a free upgrade boiler as work full time and do not have a disability. What companies or deals out there would I be best suited to please?

Thank you for your help

Andrew

Put your annual kWH consumption into a comparison site and pick who is the cheapest.

That is what everyone else does.
Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:

I'd suggest that you have a hunt round to see if anyone will change your meter for free, you'll probably have to transfer to their pre-pay tariff for a period before they'll swap you though.

We did it three years ago, we had a prepay when we moved in, but fortunately the supplier at the new address was the same as our supplier at the previous one so we had a good record and they swapped the electricity meter within a week for free (we don't now have gas). We then swapped tariffs as we had a two rate meter and only wanted a single rate - a man came and reconfigured the meter (it had to be done in two goes, I don't know why). We then swapped suppliers.

The only way to get a decent tariff is to put your annual consumption in kw into a couple of comparison sites, don't do it with costs as its not accurate and you can get very misleading offers. Any one can have a guess at what you are using based on what you are paying at the moment and then offer you a cheaper direct debit but you could end up with a big bill at the end of a year (or even the winter)
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
