A pair of Homeplugs could be more effective then a wireless connector - since it wouldn't impacted by interference (cordless phones \ microwave / thick walls or rsj's used in home extensions..or other wifi devices using the bandwidth in the property..0

To update.
On reflection we decided to go with the powerline option. It appears that data is transferred more efficiently this way than wirelessly. The starter pack I bought in Argos was £19.99 and included 2 plugs and 2 ethernet cables. It took minutes to set up and worked instantly. Delighted.
Thanks for all your help. Maybe I'll upgrade to movies over Xmas and get a free HD box, but in the meantime I've got loads of on-demand box sets to enjoy.
