One Call Direct Debit

Hi forum folks!
I renewed my home insurance with One Call Insurance at the beginning of August and the £21 monthly direct debit payments have left my account on the 22nd of August and September.
This morning I received an email from them stating that I had defaulted on my direct debit and so they had taken £42 to bring my account up to date. I have emailed them a scanned copy of my bank statement to prove the amounts have gone out and they've agreed to refund me.
I now have two questions.
Have they acted legally in taking further payments without my knowledge? ...and will my credit file be impacted by their error?
Many thanks!

Legally probably, But if it was by direct debit then you could have claimed it back with the DD guarantee anyway.
Its one of those things it happens, As long as it didnt cost you bank charges etc them move on.
